Barbara With, international peace activist and award-winning author of Imagining Einstein: Essays on M-Theory, World Peace & The Science of Compassion comes to Stoughton to teach her powerful process of Conflict REVOLUTION: World Peace, One Person at a Time, Beginning with You. Based on the unified field theory and maps of human consciousness from Einstein, Ms. With teaches you how to take responsibility for your part of the conflict, and turn and become the peacemaker. Conflict REVOLUTION is the missing peace we mistakenly
look for in others, improving self-esteem, setting strong boundaries, inspiring
discipline, creativity and responsibility.

By being committed to making peace within, you change the entire system
of conflict that surrounds you, and will effectively contribute to
peace on a global level as well. Been wrestling with a conflict blocking your health, happiness and wellbeing? Then Conflict REVOLUTION is for you!

Organizer and VFP member, Buzz Davis of Stoughton said, “After 8 years
of USwar in Afghanistan, 7 years in Iraq and the first Gulf war, what do we
have to show for it? Thousands of dead soldiers, a million of civilians dead,
millions more wounded, millions of families broken, devastated countries and
economies, an ever richer military industrial complex, more than a trillion
dollars additional national debt and no peace in sight.”

Forty seven million Americans are without health care with as estimated 50
million more underinsured. VFP member Steve Books of Mt. Horeb asked, “Why
is there never enough money for our own people and always enough money for
more war and torturing? The town meeting will explain and compare the
various single payer/Medicare for all health plans being discussed in
Congress and Wisconsin. We will review the costs of the illegal wars of
aggression in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Israeli Palestinian conflict
and wars elsewhere along with the American torture programs.”

Steve White, a member of SWWAP stated that President Johnson proved in the
1960’s that we cannot simultaneously have guns and butter, i.e., both a war
in Vietnam and antipoverty programs here at home. White explained,
“President Obama is now stuck in the same situation with the addition of our
economy being in deep recession. The public demands a national health care
system and the wars drain off hundreds of billions of dollars each year.
This meeting will focus on what needs to be done to change this situation
for the better.”

Various speakers will make presentations followed by audience discussion and
a call to action.

According to Jim Goronson, "In the 1980s El Salvador and Iraq were two of the most egregious human rights abusing nations in the world. What did these nations have in common at the time? Strategic relationships with the U.S. government. El Salvador had the infamous paramilitary "death squads", .... and a seemingly endless supply of money, guns, and Special Forces advisers from the Reagan administration. $6 billion from 1981 to 1992--70,000 people killed--the vast majority innocent civilians."

"Fast forward to January 2005, the U.S., engaged in an ostensible "liberation from tyranny" of the Iraqi population, finds itself engaged in an intractable conflict against a guerrilla insurgency that exists within the fabric of Sunni society. Donald Rumsfeld & Co. at the Pentagon, fretting over the fact that the seemingly all-powerful U.S. military cannot quell the insurgency and in fact is probably losing the conflict, desperately look to El Salvador's bloody death squad past as a possible course of action to take. The "Salvador option", as it is being called, would entail the sending of Special Forces advisers to "advise, support and possibly train Iraqi squads, most likely hand-picked Kurdish Peshmerga fighters and Shiite militiamen, to target Sunni insurgents and their sympathizers". A crucial component of such operations would be to instill fear in the Sunni population, who so far have not been forced to pay for their support of the resistance."

Come hear Jim Goronson explain the parallels between U.S. foreign policy in El Salvador and Iraq, and debunk the myths about the "Salvador option."

Jim is the National Coordinator for U.S.-El Salvador Sister Cities (USESSC), a network of twenty committees and two organizations that have sistering relationships with twenty rural villages and two regional organizations in El Salvador. Jim has been an activist in the Latin America solidarity field for the past sixteen years and has worked for Sister Cities for three years. Jim recently wrote the article "The OTHER Salvador Option for Iraq": http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0112-22.htm, which was quoted in the text above.
