Local Democracy Convention

Thursday evening willbe an International Reception. Friday registration begins at Noon with workshops from 1-2:30 pm; Keynote Address from 3-4:30pm by Juan Barreto, Mayor of Caracas;4:30pm - 5:30 pm is reception with Venezuelan delegation; 7pm is Panel on Building a Global Movement for Local Democracy. Saturday, registration starts at 8am, with workshop from 9-10:30 am; a panel on Serving All the Peopel from 11am-1pm; workshops from 3-4:30pm; a panel on "Community Power in a Democratic Society" from 5-6:30pm; and Music byDavid Rovics at 9pm. Sunday includes: workshops form 9-10:30am; and Panel on Popular Participation from 11am - 1pm, with closing plenary from1:30-2:30 pm. Monday there will be further meetings from 10am - 2pm.

Interfaith Meditation for Global Peace

This local event is part of a worldwide network of similar events happening. It is expected that a millioin people will come togehter to meditate for peace on Oct. 2, birthday of Mahatma Gandhi in Sri Lanka and around the world. You can join them. Celebrate non-violence!

Also: The movie "Gandhi" will be shown Monday Oct. 2, 2006, 5:15 pm at the Madison Public Library, 201 W. Mifflin St., Madison.

"Sarvodaya" is a word coined by Gandhi meaning "the awakening and welfare of all." The purpose of the meditation is to experience the power of many minds together to build a critical mass for peace.

Auction to Raise Money for Mifflin Street Comunity Cooperative

Mifflin St.Community Cooperative is holding an auction to raise money to try to "give to its community what they ask". The auction will be a silent auction with four tiers of item values. Auction booklets will be available to eneryone attending the event, describing each item donated, a starting auction value, rules, a list of donators, etc. Donations can be varied. Examples include: kitchenware, jewelry, artwork, books, massages, outdoor equipment, gift certificates. Every donation makes a difference.

This is one of the best documentary explorations of the Palestinian experience under Israeli occupation. It is a sequel to an earlier 1977 documentary on the same subject. This film is the first in a series on the Israeli-Palestine conflict that will continue through December 10th. Check the MAPC website for announcement of the later film screenings.
